The Washington Capitals have signed forward Sergei Shumakov to a one-year, two-way entry-level contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Shumakov's contract will carry an average annual value of $925,000.

Shumakov, 25, tied for first on CSKA Moscow with 40 points (17g, 23a) in 47 games in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the 2017-18 season and tied for 19th in points in the KHL. The 6'0", 196-pound forward added another four points (2g, 2a) in 11 playoff games with CSKA Moscow, who reached the Gagarin Cup Final last season. The Chelyabinsk, Russia, native also led the KHL in plus/minus rating (+28) and was named the KHL player of the week on Nov. 8, 2017. Shumakov made his KHL debut with Sibir Novosibirsk in the 2011-12 season and has 145 points (74g, 71a) in 282 career games.
