Winter Classic
at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh and defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in Jan. 1, 2015 in the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Nationals Park. The Capitals are just one of six teams in the NHL to win two or more outdoor games.
The Capitals and the Maple Leafs have played each other 141 times during the regular season, of which the Capitals have a record of 71-54-16. Both teams have seen each other only once in the playoffs since the Capitals joined the League in the 1974-75 season and it was round one of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, won by the Capitals in six games. All six games were decided by one goal, including five contests that required overtime.
