ARLINGTON, Va. - Registration is now open for the Capitals spring Try Hockey for Free Program presented by ThunderCat Technology as well as the Capitals Learn to Play Street Hockey Program.

Try Hockey for Free Program:
The Try Hockey for Free program, geared toward participants ages 4-17, offers street hockey clinics free of charge to local children across the Washington, D.C. area. Each participant will learn the basics of hockey, including stickhandling, passing and shooting. Additionally, all participants will receive a street hockey stick and ball to take home following the event to encourage continued development.
The clinics will take place at Franklin Park in Purcellville, VA and Ridge Road Recreational Park in Germantown, MD.

The Washington Capitals built a new street hockey rink at Franklin Park in 2017 and renovated the existing street hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park in 2019 as part of their investment to grow access to the sport of hockey. For a full list of Capitals rink refurbishment projects visit

Learn to Play Street Hockey Program:
Learn to Play Street Hockey is a first of its kind initiative that provides families the opportunity to join the hockey community through an accessible and affordable program. Participants will develop fundamental skills that will help them succeed in hockey and beyond.
The Learn to Play Street Hockey program is designed for first-time players between the ages of 5-9 and 10-14. For a small fee, participants will receive free equipment and six (6) weeks of age-appropriate introductory instruction on the fundamental skills of hockey from certified coaches.
The clinics will also take place at Franklin Park and Ridge Road Recreational Park.
