The IIHF World Girls' Ice Hockey Weekend is a global event taking place Oct. 15-17 for girls to try out hockey as a new sport. The initiative introduces participants to basic skills in hockey in a positive, fun and safe environment, offers the chance to learn about opportunities in ice hockey in the community, teaches fair play, sportsmanship and teamwork and encourages players to meet new friends and fall in love with a new sport.
Coyne grew up playing ice hockey and lettered in both ice hockey and softball in high school and went on to play for the Mid Fairfield CT Stars hockey club as well as the Chicago Mission. With the Chicago Mission, Coyne won an Illinois state championship in 2013 and helped the team place third at Nationals. Coyne also won Massachusetts state hockey championships in 2014 and 2015 played with Assabet Valley and won a Connecticut state hockey championship in 2016 playing with Mid Fairfield. While a student at Northeastern University, Coyne was named to the Hockey East all-academic team in both her 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In 2019, Coyne transferred to Lindenwood University as a graduate transfer and played two seasons for the Lindenwood Lions.
Pankowski joined the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) in 2020. She was selected as a member of the U.S. Women's National Team and played in three International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championships (winning gold in 2015, 2016, and 2016). She also played in five Four Nationals Cups (winning 1st in 2017, 2017, and 2018, winning 2nd in 2014, and winning third in 2013), and participated in two games during the 2013-14 ore-Olympic tour. Pankowski was also a three-time member of the U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team at the Under-22 Series vs. Canada in 2014, 2015, and 2015. As a member of the U.S. Women's National Team, Pankowski participated in various events during the 2019-20 Rivalry Series. In addition, Pankowski was a two-time member of the U.S. Under-18 Women's Select Team in 2010 and 2011 and played in one IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship (winning silver in 2012). Pankowski was also named a 2019 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award top-three finalist and was twice named as a top-10 finalist in 2016 and 2017.
