The Washington Capitals were announced today as the sole NHL team on Sports Innovation Lab's Top 25 Most Innovative Teams in the World Report for 2022 (#25Innovative).
Sports Innovation Lab is a data-driven fan intelligence company whose Top 25 Most Innovative Teams in the World Report is the definitive global ranking of sports teams. Sports Innovation Lab uses a proprietary methodology to score and rank properties based on their ability to win the future fan - the Fluid Fan. The Capitals were named as number 15 on the list with a team score of 642.

The Capitals, owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), were named to the list in honor of several organizational and MSE initiatives - all centered around achieving the highest level of fan engagement and the greatest satisfaction of fan experience. Capitals fans benefit from the technology-driven, business intelligence platform as it fuels all of the strategic programs across multiple facets of the organization. An organizational-wide commitment to being digital-first, creative and agile in service to fans has resulted in innovations across areas including but not limited to dynamic ticketing, targeted marketing programs, specialty Caps programming on MSE's streaming network (Monumental Sports Network), investment in the Capitals' esports sub-brand (Caps Gaming), being first to market with an in-arena sportsbook, and the Caps signing the first-ever jersey patch deal for an NHL team.

Teams exclusively within the top 10 revenue-grossing leagues globally were evaluated for this year's report. North American market representation on the list came from across men's sports leagues, including the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL.
