Washington Capitals Players Team Up with Dreams for Kids DC

For the eighth-consecutive year the Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation teamed up with Dreams for Kids DC (DFKDC) to host an Extreme Recess Hockey Clinic at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Jan. 30. The clinic was a part of a series of Capitals' events celebrating Hockey is for Everyone™ Month.

During the clinic, Capitals players Jay Beagle, Taylor Chorney, Matt Niskanen and Brooks Orpik skated and played hockey with nearly 100 children with physical and developmental disabilities. Four-time Olympian Jenny Potter also participated in the skate. MSE Foundation partner Leveling the Playing Field provided free equipment to participants.

Dreams For Kids DC, a 501(c)(3) children's charity, organizes life-changing activities that empower children with physical and developmental disabilities to unite with their peers and realize their full potential. Their clinics pair each child with a volunteer so every child is engaged effectively as they participate in sports, often for the very first time.
For the 20th year, the NHL has designated February Hockey is for Everyone™ Month to celebrate grassroots hockey and the game's growing diversity. The program offers children of all backgrounds opportunities to play hockey and leverages the sport of hockey as a catalyst to teach essential life skills and the core values of hockey: commitment, perseverance and teamwork. In addition, the initiative supports hockey programs that assist disabled military personnel in returning to their mainstream lifestyles.
