INSIDE THE DEVILS

The Devils were given a day off Thursday following an impressive 3-0 victory against Philadelphia.

PRE-GAME STORY

NEWARK, N.J. - The Devils held a full morning skate Friday after having a complete off day on Thursday. New Jersey used the following workflow…
Zacha - Hischier - Bratt
Johnsson - Hughes - Sharangovich
Vesey - Mercer - Tatar
Kuokkanen - McLeod - Bastian
Graves - Hamilton
Siegenthaler - Severson
Smith - Subban
Geertsen - Jaros
SCHMID UP
The Devils made a morning transaction to their goaltending position. They placed Jonathan Bernier on Injured Reserve due to a season-long nagging hip injury and recalled Akria Schmid from Utica of the American Hockey League.
"It's the same issue (Bernier has) been dealing with since the beginning of the year, missing practices and missing games," head coach Lindy Ruff said. "He'll meet with our doctors and our medical staff and figure out what the next step is going to be."
Schmid is 8-0-2 with the Comets with season while boasting a 1.60 goals-against average and .944 save percentage. His save percentage ranks first in the entire AHL, while his GAA is second.
"I'm just trying to learn as much as I can," Schmid said of being in the NHL. "Be a sponge and soak up as much information as I can to get better."
REVENGE GAME
The Devils are looking for a little revenge against the Nashville Predators. New Jersey's 4-2 loss in the Music City on Nov. 26 was arguably the worst on-ice performance from the Devils this season. And a team full of pride is looking to send a message on their game.
"They're now in our barn, and we have to play a much better hockey game to give ourselves a chance to win this game," captain Nico Hischier said. "Everybody in there knows it. We have to do it and execute it.
"Everybody in here has some pride … You want that team in there telling each other 'that's a different team than we saw (last time).' That's our goal tonight."
While the Devils were unhappy with their previous performance against the Predators, there are lessons to be learned.
"It is a game that you have to remember. It was a game that we didn't like at all how we played," Ruff said. "You can lose in different ways. We lost in almost every area on the ice. We talked about the last game. The seed has been planted. We need a lot better effort to beat that team than we had in Nashville."
