Bowers for Walsh Trade Graphic

The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired forward Shane Bowersin a trade with the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Reilly Walsh. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Bowers, 23, played in 37 games for Colorado's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate (Colorado Eagles) last season and totaled 14 points (4g-10a). He was traded to Boston on February 25, 2023, and played in 20 AHL regular-season contests for Providence.

The 6'2", 185lbs. forward recorded 21 points (8g-13a) in 57 contests between Colorado and Providence in the AHL last season. Bowers also played in three Calder Cup Playoff games for Providence and logged four penalty minutes.

Bowers, who made his NHL debut on Nov. 10, 2022, with the Avalanche, played in the AHL with Colorado from 2018-19 to 2022-23 and earned 59 career points (27g-32a) in 154 regular-season games for the Eagles.

Born on July 30, 1999, Ottawa selected Bowers in the first round, 28th overall, in the 2017 NHL Draft. Before his professional experience, Bowers played in the NCAA for Boston University from 2017-18 to 2018-19 and finished in the top five of scoring on the Terriers in both seasons. He totaled 53 career points (28g-25a) in 77 contests at Boston and helped the Terriers win a Hockey East title in 2017-18. Bowers was also named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2017-18. From 2015-16 to 2016-17, he played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for Waterloo and was tied for first on the team with 51 points in 2016-17 (22g-29a).

Bowers represented Canada at the international level at the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) 2018-19 World Junior Championship, where he tallied two assists in five games played.

New Jersey selected Walsh in the third round, 81st overall, at the 2017 NHL Draft. The defenseman played three seasons with the organization's AHL affiliates, Binghamton/Utica, and totaled 99 career points (23gg-76a) in 174 regular-season contests.
