Third Jersey Speak of the Devils

A week ago, the Devils launched the first third jersey in the franchise's four-decade history. And the mastermind behind the project was legend and Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur.
"It was exciting that the organization asked me to design the third jersey," the three-time Stanley Cup champion netminder told the Speak of the Devils podcast. "The fact that the team will be wearing something different, something completely out of the box will be pretty cool for me."
The new jersey has many interesting tidbits and elements, but there was one dealbreaker for Brodeur.
"There was no question it was going to be black," he said. "For years people wanted that. It makes you look mean, it makes you look big. It was going to be black if I was going to be involved in it."

Brodeur had some help in the design with co-creator Jillian Frechette, the Devils Sr. VP of Marketing. The two worked hand-in-hand, but Brodeur's fingerprints are all over the jersey.
"Martin Brodeur is the architect of this jersey. He is the designer," Frechette told the podcast. "The two of us were co-creators. We certainly had some feedback from others on our team. But it starts and finishes with Marty, and that part is really special."
The Devils unveil the third jersey Dec. 8 vs. Philadelphia. It will a historic moment in franchise history.
"What's special about this is we launch now. It's almost four decades of Devils hockey that we're about to celebrate. We have this beautiful new third jersey, a franchise first," Frechette said. "It's a really exciting time for the franchise. It's a really exciting time for the alumni. And certainly, exciting for our young guys who are really doing some great stuff on the ice."
