WHAT'S NEXT
The Devils return to the ice tomorrow with another two-a-day with Group A and Group B holding separate practices. The next and final Camp Game will be Sunday, January 10 at 7:00 PM ET and it will be streamed live once again on NewJerseyDevils.com.
It took a while for any offense to come but it did late in the second period with Yegor Sharangovich continuing his very impressive training camp. Janne Kuokkanen passed it back door to Sharangovich who was crashing the net. He tapped it in for the game's opening goal to put Team White up 1-0.
In the third, Jack Hughes showed off some nice moves, weaving through the offensive zone before rifling a shot off the far post for Team Red. Unfortunately, it never crossed the line but it was a nice sequence for the sophomore first-overall pick.
Deep into the third, defenseman Will Butcher ripped a shot through bodies and into the net for Red to make it a 1-1 game.
The Devils skipped past 3-on-3 overtime, but as they do every Camp Game, the club practiced their shootout moves. Jesper Boqvist and Kyle Palmieri had the nicest scores for Team White and Red respectively.
Jack Hughes did finish off the shootout with a snappy, fast shot that beat the netminder to win it for Team Red.
Following the game, goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood discussed his second game of the camp and how he felt after his performance.
"I was happy to get another one under my belt, I know we have one more," said Blackwood. "These are great for getting ready for the games and I felt a lot better today in this one than I did in the last one so hopeully the next one I'll feel better yet."
With additions to the defense this off-season, the defensive-core is finding chemistry in these games according to P.K. Subban.
"Every day it's getting better, actually it's fun to see. We're building chemistry. I know that myself and Ryan Murray, if I compare us to the first day of camp, we're in a better position now," said Subban. "It's fun to play with guys that are having fun and just as much fun as you are and are excited to be out there."
