Celebrating February High Points | THREE THINGS

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it was a fun one for the Devils. Plenty of events and celebrations off the ice and the team added in a significant new piece, all while continuing their winning ways.
It was a solid month for the Devils on the ice, winning seven of their ten games and picking up points in eight total.
After a 4-3 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks to open the month, the Devils avenged their 4-3 overtime loss on Jan. 19 with a 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken. New Jersey went on to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets (3-2), Pittsburgh Penguins (5-2), Winnipeg Jets (4-2), Los Angeles Kings (4-3 OT), and the Philadelphia Flyers (7-0) to round out the month.
Let's go back to February and reflect back on the month that was on this edition of Three Things presented by GEICO.

1. The All-Star

For the second straight year, Devils forward Jack Hughes was named an NHL All-Star. Quite the feat to achieve in only his fourth season in the league. Hughes participated in the accuracy shooting competition during the Skills Competition on Friday and then played for the Metropolitan Division team in the All-Star game on Saturday.

Hughes' trip was more than just the on-ice activities. He met with the

, walked the red carpet, and mingled with the other NHL All-Stars at media day. Hughes represented the Devils well in sunny Florida to kick off February!

2. Honoring the Champs

20 years after the Devils won their third Stanley Cup Championship, the franchise honored that team back at Prudential Center. The 2003 Cup reunion had former players and coaches come back, share stories of what made that year's team special, and describe the full effort it took to win the Cup.

Three members of the 2003 Cup team are always around the Devils as Ken Daneyko (current MSG color analyst), Sergei Brylin (current assistant coach), and Martin Brodeur (current Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations), all work for the franchise. The

, the wife of 2003 Head Coach Pat Burns, over the weekend as well as Pat passed away back in 2010.
What made the reunion weekend even better was following an on-ice pre-game ceremony Saturday night, the Devils went on to beat their rivals, the Flyers, 7-0 in front of a VIP audience.

3. The New Guy

After plenty of speculation and chatter on social media, the big news broke on Feb. 26: the Devils traded for forward Timo Meier as part of a thirteen piece trade with the San Jose Sharks involving draft picks, prospects, and players. Meier is a strong, physical forward who knows how to score. He joined the Devils with 31 goals and 21 assists through 57 games with the Sharks and Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald brought him in to help the Devils in the upcoming playoffs.

It was an exciting day for the Devils who added their
fourth Swiss player to their franchise
, and a key piece of New Jersey's offense moving through the rest of the year.
