Devils Debut Reverse Retro 2022 | THREE THINGS

The New Jersey Devils will skate onto the ice in Philadelphia this evening looking a little different than fans are accustomed to. For the first time, the 2022 Reverse Retro jersey will be worn. We've had glimpses of the entire look on the new generation of Devils talent, but the whole look will come together in a game tonight.
In this edition of Three Things, we take a trip back to the origins that inspired the
2022 Reverse Retro Series
, presented by Pepsi.

2. 1982

When the Rockies moved to New Jersey and became the Devils, the Devils debuted a brand-new logo and jersey, all of which have been incorporated into the 2022 Reverse Retro. While the color palatte is a distinct change from the jersey the Devils wear today, it's a jersey that tells the story of the journey that the club has taken from the moment the Rockies were acquired by Dr. John McMullen to the present day.
The colorway may be different but the essence of the New Jersey Devils is on full display on the 2022 Reverse Retro jersey: The stylized 'NJ' with the Devils horns. Iconic, the logo has remained relatively unchanged in its 40 years of existence. The logo is the symbol of three Stanley Cup championships, the logo the greatest goaltender of all time wore, and the future NHL stars are currently wearing. Leaving it unchanged, but with an embossed blue embroidery to make it stand out.
You'll notice the 2022 Reverse Retro jersey is a similar design to that of the inaugural Devils season jersey, as well, with the return of the band at the bottom of the jersey, this time in Rockies colors. The bands across the shoulders also feature a similar pattern to the Devils 1982 jersey, creating a perfect mix of recognizing the beginnings of the Devils franchise, where they came from, with a current day flare.
The Devils will showcase the inaugural 1982 jersey remixed in a Colorado Rockies colorway featuring a vivid bright athletic white body complimented by gold and navy striping incorporated in the trim of shoulder yoke and vertically down the side of the pant. - NHL PR

3. The Opponents

Running down the list of opponents for the four games in which the Devils will wear their Reverse Retro jerseys, you'll notice a trend when it comes to the opponents selected for these special nights. Twice on the road and twice at home all the opponents were once members of the old Patrick Division in the National Hockey League, which when the Rockies relocated to become the Devils, they played in.

BONUS: The New Generation

Over the last few weeks, the current members of the New Jersey Devils have been working in their new gear as they prepare to wear the full Reverse Retro kit on Saturday in Philadelphia. It takes some work to break in a new set of gloves and pants, so we have caught glimpses of the full look at practices.
"I loved the jersey," Dawson Mercer said, "Obviously the bright colors are a little different from the red and black. I think it looks really good, the retros (…) I just like the match of our colors and I'm excited to see the jersey and the full outfit together."
Miles Wood, the second longest-serving member of the Devils on the current roster, is into the pop of Rockies colors.
"In the past, we've had the green pants and jerseys," Wood said. "I actually really like these. They're super cool. It's a unique look and I can't wait to wear them."
