PRE-GAME STORY

SAN JOSE, Calif. -
The Devils did not hold a morning skate prior to their contest against San Jose due to playing in the second half of back-to-backs. The club did announce that defenseman Christian Jaros has been retroactively placed on Injured Reserve. With blueliner Dougie Hamilton out with a lower-body injury, Colton White was recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League.
The club will dress an extra player at warmups and make a game-time decision on the lineup.
Rebound
Defenseman Damon Severson took three penalties in the third period of a 3-2 overtime setback to Los Angeles Friday night. He and his head coach a long talk about his need to be better.
"We had a long discussion about last night's game," Ruff said. "He totally acknowledged that what happened last night was unacceptable and we're putting it behind us."
Discipline
The Devils have been guilty of taking a lot of penalties lately. They've had two games with five penalties, one game with six and another with seven.
"The responsibility to turn this around with the number of penalties that we're taking is really going to rely on the leaders of our team," Ruff said. "It's been lack of discipline.
"I talk about back checking with your legs. Don't get your stick on people. Don't get your stick tangled up and taking tripping penalties. Some of the penalties have been careless offensive zone penalties. That's a place you shouldn't be taking penalties."
