Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today signed forward Jimmy Vesey to a one-year, one-way contract worth $800,000. Vesey had been in Devils training camp since agreeing to a professional tryout agreement on September 14. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Vesey skated in 50 games last season between Toronto and Vancouver, tallying five goals and five assists for 10 points with 58 total shots. Since his NHL debut during the 2016-17 season, Vesey has also played with the NY Rangers and Buffalo. Between 2016 and 2019, Vesey was a member of the Rangers, where he had his best offensive seasons with 16, 17 and 17 goals respectively. His career-high point total came during the 2018-19 season with 35 (17g-18a) in his final season with the Rangers. The 28-year-old, left-shot winger has 64 goals, 56 assists for 120 points and 92 penalty minutes in 354 career regular-season NHL games. He's added one goal and four assists in 12 games during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Born on May 26, 1993, the native of Boston, MA, was Nashville's third-round selection, 66th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. He signed with the NY Rangers as an amateur free-agent on Aug. 20, 2016. Prior to his professional experience, the 6'3", 200lb. forward spent four decorated years at Harvard (ECAC) where he won the Hobey Baker Award in 2016 after posting 24 goals and 46 points in 33 games.
