On Monday, Johnson will travel to Binghamton and sign an AHL amateur tryout contract with the club on Tuesday.
Johnson, 23, spent the last four seasons, 2014-18, with North Dakota (NCHC), notching a 56-26-12 record in 102 career games with 12 shutouts. He is UND's all-time leader in career goals-against average (2.10), ranks second in career shutouts (12), fourth in wins (56) and career save percentage (.916). Johnson also finished his career with a 10-3 record in 13 career conference/NCAA playoff games. In 2015-16, he set college career highs with 24 wins, five shutouts, a 1.66 GAA and .935 save% in 34 games, as he led the Fighting Hawks to the 2016 NCAA Championship. That season, the 6-1, 200 lb. net-minder was named to the NCHC Second All-Star Team, NCAA West Second All-American Team and NCAA All-Tournament Team. Each season of his career, he has been named to the NCHC All-Academic Team.
Born on July 11, 1994, the Troy, MI native appeared in 63 games with Fargo and Waterloo (USHL) over two seasons (2012-13 & 2013-14) and played youth hockey with the Little Caesars program.
