The New Jersey Devils today signed goaltender Tyler Brennan, the team's third selection, and fourth-round choice, 102nd overall, at the 2022 NHL Draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract starting with the 2023-24 season. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Brennan, 19, played in the last four-plus seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for Prince George. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound goaltender recorded a career-high 21 wins in 2022-23 with the Cougars, and helped the team clinch consecutive postseason berths. Brennan was also one of 15 WHL netminders who earned more than 20 wins in the 2022-23 campaign. He posted victories in 21 of his 37 games, finishing the year with a 21-10-3 record. During the 2021-22 post-season, despite the Cougars being swept in the first round, Brennan had a fantastic showing with a 1.86 GAA and .954 SV%.
Born on September 27, 2003, the Winnipeg, MB, native was the lone goaltender selected by New Jersey in the 2022 NHL Draft in Montreal, and the second goaltender overall taken in the 2022 Draft. Brennan has represented Canada on an international stage, earning a Gold Medal at the 2021 IIHF's U-18 World Junior Championship (WJC) as the club's third goalie.
