Newark, NJ (November 21, 2018) -The New Jersey Devils will support the National Hockey League's annual Hockey Fights Cancer initiative on Friday Nov. 23, when the team faces off against local rivals the New York Islanders at 4 p.m. EST. All fans in attendance will receive a Hockey Fights Cancer rally towel provided by Fusion.

This year's game once again highlights Devils' forward Brian Boyle, the 2018 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy recipient for perseverance in the face of adversity. Boyle announced on October 24 that his Leukemia is in remission after a 13-month fight.
Local 11-Year Old Leukemia Survivor Serves as Assistant Coach
Lifelong Devils fan, Bennett Burgida, an 11-year-old Leukemia survivor from Englewood, New Jersey, will serve as Honorary Assistant Coach for the day. Following a lunch with Devils' alumni Chico Resch and Ken Daneyko, Burgida will join Coach John Hynes at pre-game media availability, lead the team out onto the ice from the locker room for warmups and participate in a ceremonial puck drop.
Moment of Silence:
Before the ceremonial puck drop, 20 players from each team, representing the 20-year history of the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, will stand upon their respective blue lines for a league-wide moment of silence. Since its inception, the Hockey Fights Cancer platform has raised over $20 million in support of those who are or have been impacted by the disease. For one night, the logos and branded marks of New Jersey Devils corporate partners will turn lavender on in-ice dasher boards, and Prudential Center's LED lights and signage will illuminate lavender.
Supporting Newark and Regional Hospitals:
Fundraising efforts throughout the game will benefit the Valarie Fund Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the Boston Children's Hospital. The Valerie Fund Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center provides comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood disorders and their families at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Boston Children's Hospital is currently treating Brian Boyle's son, Declan, a special member of the Devils' family who was diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in his chin.
Lavender Warm-Up Jerseys and Players Sticks Auctioned for Charity:

Pre-game, players' wives and girlfriends will sell custom New Jersey Devils Hockey Fights Cancer t-shirts and mystery pucks on the main concourse. New this year, players and their significant others have teamed up to create gift baskets that include autographed items and player's favorite foods, products and more. Mystery Pucks:
This year's mystery puck sale will include custom designed and autographed Hockey Fights Cancer pucks. Eleven pucks will be signed by #11 Brian Boyle in gold, fans who select those limited pucks will be eligible for exclusive surprises such as signed jerseys, Zamboni rides, glass-seats, and signed sticks.
Lauren Boyle Named Hockey Fights Cancer Ambassador:
Recently, Lauren Boyle, wife of Devils Forward Brian Boyle, was named the official Hockey Fights Cancer ambassador for the NHL. NHL.com will publish special columns throughout the month written by Lauren detailing her personal experiences as well as her interview with last year's ambassador Nicholle Anderson, cancer survivor and wife of Ottawa Senators goaltender, Craig Anderson. Lauren has been on a media tour all month, outlining her experience with her family and her strength in the process.
Hero Among Us:
The Hero Among Us for the game is a cancer survivor and patient at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset, New Jersey, part of RWJBarnabas Health. Joining her for the night will be her family and caregivers.
