PREVIEW
DEVILS (3-0-0) vs. FLYERS (1-2-0)
Head-to-Head
This will be the second and final time the Devils and Flyers meet during the 2023 preseason. The first matchup between the two was barely a contest, with the Devils jumping out to a 4-0 lead by the 5:50 mark of the first period. Vitek Vanecek played half the game, rarely tested by the Flyers. After the 60 minutes, the Devils had scored six goals on 34 shots, while the Flyers were shutout, taking just 21 shots.
Devils Team Scope:
The Devils have had quite the start to their seven-game preseason schedule. In their first three games, where they've gone undefeated, the Devils have scored 13 goals, while conceding just four to their three opponents.
As we get closer to the start of the regular season, the roster had its biggest cuts on Friday with 13 players either returning to their junior hockey club or assigned to Utica of the American Hockey League. That now leaves a total of 43 players at training camp.
Flyers Team Scope:
The Flyers are coming off of a 3-2 shootout victory on Friday night to the Boston Bruins. In their first three games of the preseason, Philadelphia has scored four goals and has given up a total of 11.
By the Numbers:
2: Number of goals Ryan Poehling has for the Flyers to lead the team in the preseason
4: Number of points Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt each have through two games played during the preseason
6: Number of different goal scorers for New Jersey in the first preseason game against Philadelphia
