Hospital Visits Feature1920x1080

When the Devils prospects showed up to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to visit with patients and hospital staff, a story he's heard many times popped into Seamus Casey's head. His older brother Ben was a patient at this North Jersey hospital fighting for his life years ago.

"He was here in this hospital and he was really sick," Seamus recounted. "Things weren't looking good, and my parents had him here."

"They thought he had leukemia, we were freaking out," Steven Casey, Ben and Seamus' father, shared about his eldest son. "His numbers were plummeting. Whatever they were supposed to do, they were going down, down, down and we were freaking out."

Things changed one day when Ken Daneyko and other Devils players brought the 2000 Stanley Cup around the hospital and stopped in Ben's room.

"(Ben) touched the Stanley Cup and the next test he had was going the other way," Stephen shared.

"They didn't understand what was going on," Seamus added. "How he was better or anything. So it's a pretty cool story."

Now, years later, as a 2022 draft pick of the Devils, Seamus returned to the hospital his family knows well to bring some light and encouragement for others.

"It was amazing," Casey said. "Those kids are so brave, it really puts things in perspective. What they're going through, the battles and they still have a smile on their face and they're talking to us. I appreciate they let us come in there (and visit).

The Casey family came out to watch Seamus in the Devils 3-on-3 event during development camp and were once again reunited with Ken Daneyko.

Dano and Casey Family

As Seamus continues his quest to one day make the Devils main roster, his family couldn't be more proud or excited with where he ended up.

"It's unbelievable. Everybody we know, all of our family is here (in New Jersey)," Stephen explained. "I couldn't think of a better team for him to go to."
