Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today acquired goaltender Andrew Hammond via trade from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Nate Schnarr. Hammond will report to New Jersey. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Hammond, 34, joins the Devils after playing in four games for Montreal this season. The netminder posted a 3-0-0 record for the Canadiens, while earning a .920 save percentage and 2.40 goals-against average (GAA). The 6-foot-2, 215lbs. goaltender has played in 60-career NHL games (30-15-6) since logging his first appearance in 2013-14 with the Ottawa Senators. Hammond spent parts of four seasons with Ottawa from 2013-14 to 2016-17. Additionally, Hammond's career-high for wins in a season is 20, after the netminder posted a 20-1-2 record with Ottawa while posting .941 save percentage and 1.79 GAA.
Prior to Hammond's tenure with Montreal, his previous NHL experience was during the 2017-18 campaign playing in one game for the Colorado Avalanche. Since 2013-14, Hammond experienced stints in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Binghamton/Belleville, San Antonio, Rochester, Iowa and Laval.

Born on February 11th, 1988, the Surrey, British Columbia native was undrafted and signed as a free agent by Ottawa on Marach 20th, 2013. Prior to Hammond's professional experience, he strapped on the pads for Bowling Green State University at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division 1 level for four seasons from 2009-10 to 2012-13 and earned 30-career wins for the Falcons.
The Devils acquired Schnarr from Arizona in the Taylor Hall trade on Dec. 16, 2019. The forward played for New Jersey's AHL affiliate in Binghamton from 2019-20 to 2020-21 and has recorded 26 points (13g-13a) in 43 games this season with Utica.
