Prospect Alexander Holtz will be allowed by the Devils to join team Sweden at the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship.
Holtz, the club's first-round pick (seventh overall) in 2020, has played the majority of the current season with Utica of the American Hockey League. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound right shot has six goals and 10 points in 10 games for the Comets. He has two assists in six games in the National Hockey League.
Holtz, 19, has played in the World Championships twice before, earning a bronze medal at the 2020 tournament after notching three goals and five points in seven games. He also posted three points (1G-2A) in five games during the 2021 World Championship.
Holtz helped Sweden win gold at the 2019 World Under-18 after potting four goals and seven points in seven games and bronze at the Under-17 tournament in 2018 with eight points (4G-4A) in six games.
The 2022 World Championship will begin Dec. 26 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta. Sweden, along with the U.S., Russia, Slovakia and Switzerland, will be based in Red Deer.
Defenseman Luke Hughes (USA) and goaltender Jakub Malek (Czech Republic) will also represent the Devils in the WC.
