USA 3, SLOVAKIA 2
Team USA had a strong performance, topping Slovakia 3-2 in their tournament opener. Luke Hughes had 16:36 of icetime and was held off the scoresheet with a -1 rating.
The first 13 minutes of the opening period were scoreless before the Americans struck for two goals, 1:43 apart to race out to a 2-0 lead.
Landon Slaggert scored midway through the second to extend USA's lead to 3-0. Slovakia added two goals in the third to make things interesting, including a disallowed marker.
Shots on goal were 42-25 in favor of USA, including a dominant 23-2 in the second period.

CANADA 6, CZECHIA 3
2021 NHL First Overall Draft Pick and defenseman Owen Power scored a hat trick to lead Canada to a 6-3 come-from-behind win over Czechia.
Devils prospect Jakub Malek, a fourth-round pick from 2021, is Czechia's starting goaltender in the tournament and was between the pipes tonight. Malek stopped 30 of 36 shots in a losing effort.
Canada opened the scoring on a goal by Mason McTavish but shortly after that, the Czechs struck for three quick ones to take a 3-1 lead. Twenty-three seconds after Czechia's third goal, Power scored his first of the night to make it a one-goal game. Donovan Sebrango scored with 29 seconds to play in the opening frame to send the game into the intermission with the teams tied 3-3.
Midway through the second, Power scored two goals, 1:25 apart to move Canada ahead 5-3. Late in the third, Owen Zellwegger added another to make the final 6-3.

SWEDEN 6, RUSSIA 3
Alexander Holtz had a goal and an assist plus three shots on goal in 19:46 of ice time to help lead Sweden to a 6-3 win over Russia to open the tournament. Shakir Mukhamadullin had three shots on goal and was -1 for Russia.
Sweden scored the game's only goal in the opening period. Holtz assisted on Oskar Olausson's goal five minutes into the contest.
The Swedes scored two more to open the second before Russia finally responded to head into the second intermission down 3-1. Three minutes into the third, Holtz scored to extend that lead to 4-1. A minute later, Russia's Matvei Mitkov scored twice 41 seconds apart to narrow the gap to 4-3. Sweden added a pair to close out the game and stave off the comeback.
Russia plays on Monday against Switzerland at 4:30 PM ET while Sweden also plays on Monday, facing Slovakia at 9:30 PM ET. Both games can be seen on NHL Network.
