For the first time since leaving the Devils' Oct. 19 game against the Seattle Kraken, center Jack Hughes returned to the ice with his teammates. Hughes skated in a no-contact jersey for a part of practice, and although he was a limited participant, his teammates were happy to see him back.
"It was great, it was awesome. We miss him, I know I miss him, I miss having him around," defenseman P.K. Subban said following practice. "It was great to see him out there getting some touches."
"Everybody was glad to see him back out there," head coach Lindy Ruff said. "He was only staying out there for 10-15 minutes of shooting, a little bit of skating and off he went. But it's the next step towards getting back and playing."
Although Hughes isn't back yet, this first practice back was a positive note for the team.
"We've missed him, I think the team knows that," Ruff said. "We've tried to make up for his absence. But getting a player like Jack back who can create a lot, create a lot of space for other players, I think it puts a smile on a guy's face."
