After trading goals in the first period and second periods, Switzerland scored two straight to get a 4-2 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. Slovakia would bring the game within one, but fell short of finding the equalizer. A last minute empty net goal secured the win for Switzerland, who improved to 4-0-0.
Nico Hischier's goal in the opening six minutes of the third period was the game winner. It was the Devils Captain's second of the tournament and third point in four games. Hischier finished the game with 17:07 of ice time and two shots on goal.
Hischier's Devils teammate Jonas Siegenthaler played 21:17 and served four penalty minutes in the Switzerland win. With the victory, Switzerland takes sole possession of first place in Group A with 12 points.
Tomas Tatar picked up an assist, his first helper of the tournament, and his second total point. The Devils forward played 21:14 in the loss. Slovakia falls to sixth in Group A with a 1-3-1 and three points.
