Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today acquired goaltender Jon Gillies from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations. Gillies will report to New Jersey. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Gillies, 27, was on the St. Louis roster after signing a one-year, two-way contract on December 8 and he has played in games with four teams this season- St. Louis (NHL, 1), Maine (ECHL, 1), Providence (AHL, 3) and Lehigh Valley (AHL, 1). Gillies posted a 3-1-0 mark with a 1.76 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage in his four AHL starts. He stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced with St. Louis on Dec. 12 vs. Anaheim.
Gillies spent last season with the AHL's Utica Comets where he posted a 3-1-2 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and .902 save percentage. In 13 NHL games played over four seasons with Calgary and St. Louis, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound netminder has a 4-5-1 record, with a 2.72 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. In 169 career AHL games, he is 73-63-29 with a 2.87 GAA and .906 save% with nine shutouts.
The native of Concord, NH played three seasons with Providence College and represented the United States at the 2013 and '14 World Junior Championships, winning gold in '13.
