The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team signed unrestricted free-agent goaltender Erik Källgren to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for 2023-24. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Källgren, 26, spent parts of the last two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and posted a career 11-6-5 record since 2021-22. He appeared in 10 games last year with Toronto and recorded a 3-2-4 record with a 2.67 GAA and .898 save%. The 6'3", 200lbs. netminder earned his first NHL win on March 15, 2022, vs Dallas, after recording a 35-save shutout. Källgren became the 39th goaltender in NHL history who earned a shutout in his first career start.

The native of Stockholm, Sweden made his professional debut in the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2019-20 campaign with the Tucson Roadrunners and then played with the Toronto Marlies from 2021-22 to 2022-23. In 2021-22, Källgren earned a 15-8-1 record and his 15 victories led all Toronto netminders. Additionally, he has totaled a career 25-18-3 record at the AHL level with a 3.08 GAA and .896 save percentage.

Born October 14, 1996, Arizona selected Källgren in the seventh round, 183rd overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft. The netminder played professionally in Sweden's top league, the SHL, with Vaxjo Lakers HC in 2019-20 and 2020-21, posting a total of 12 wins. Källgren helped Vaxio win an SHL championship in 2020-21, after he posted a 7-3-0 record in the playoffs with a 1.74 GAA and .930 save percentage. He also played in Finland's top professional league, Liiga, during the 2019-20 season and played in 18 games (6-8-3) with TPS.

Three Swedish-born goaltenders have played for the Devils franchise: Johan Hedberg (80 GP), Hardy Astrom (79 GP) and Eddie Lack (4 GP).
