PRE-GAME STORY

NEWARK, NJ - Saturday's effort against the New York Islanders at Prudential Center was much improved over Thursday's loss in Uniondale. Today, the Devils complete their set of three straight games against their area rivals looking for some further improvement and perhaps a halt to New York's eight-game win streak.
"We wanted to improve our play inside our zone. I thought we did. We had puck management issues which I'd like us to clean up today. They probably had five or six chances as a result of poor puck play and poor decisions by us," said Devils head coach Lindy Ruff.
"Our decision to not put it deep can't fuel their offense."
Ruff was asked what a path to success would look like today for the Devils.
"Stay out of the penalty box as much as we can and continue to get inside," he said. "We've got to limit their transition. They have a speed transition game."
This is the sixth time that these two teams have met. The Islanders have won four of the previous five with New Jersey's lone win coming on January 24 by a score of 2-0 with Scott Wedgewood getting the shutout win.
Ruff said that defense needs to be the foundatino in order to have success against a Tough Islanders square, much like it was in that 2-0 game. He also added that the team showed some good things in each of their prior two opponents before this Islanders series and that needs to be the basis for how to play.

"If you look at the Boston game and some parts of the Washington game, we were close. I thought we allowed them a three-on-two rush where, in a game where you're winning by one you can't give up.
"We'll keep working on the offensive side but defense has to be our foundation."
Ruff would not tip his hand on tonight's starting goaltender, though Blackwood played on Saturday.

PREVIEW

DEVILS (8-14-3) vs ISLANDERS (19-6-4)
TV: MSG at 5 PM ET
Head-to-Head:
This will be the sixth meeting of the season between these two clubs and third meeting in the last four nights.
The Islanders have won the last three meetings. The Devils lone win of the season series came on Jan. 24, a 2-0 blanking of the Isles with Scott Wedgewood between the pipes.
Devils Team Scope:
The Devils have lost three-straight games since shutting out the Boston Bruins on March 7. Two of those losses have come against the Islanders.
The Devils have also lost 10 straight home games, which breaks the previous record streak set in 1985-96.
New Jersey is paced in scoring by Pavel Zacha, who scored his seventh goal of the season Saturday night against NYI. He has a team-high 17 points.
Islanders Team Scope:
The Islanders have gone in the opposite direction. They have now won eight-straight games and haven't lost since an overtime defeat at the hands of the Penguins on Feb. 27.
That means the Islanders have at least a point in 11 games, dating back to Feb. 22.
By the Numbers:
The Devils penalty kill is 9-for-9 against the Islanders the first two games of this week's series. This despite being the 30th ranked penalty kill. The Islanders power play is now ranked 16th in the league.
Oliver Wahlstrom has two goals in three meetings versus the Devils this season.
Injury Update:
Devils: Hischier (upper body) is on IR.
Islanders: Anders Lee (lower body) is listed as day-to-day
