The New Jersey Devils today acquired left wing Andreas Johnsson from Toronto in exchange for forward Joey Anderson. The 5'10", 195lb. winger has three years left on his contract with an average annual value of $3,400,000
"Andreas is a hard-working, competitive forward who can slot up and down the lineup" said Fitzgerald. "The overall versatility of his game will be a great complement to our centermen, with his skating, quickness, and scoring touch."
Johnsson, 25, scored eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points with 14 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Maple Leafs last season, and skated in one game during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Before becoming an NHL regular, Johnsson played two seasons for Toronto's American Hockey League affiliate. In 2018, he led the Marlies to the Calder Cup Championship leading all playoff performers in assists (14) and points (24) en route to being named Most Valuable Player.
Born November 21, 1994, the native of Gavle, Sweden, was Toronto's seventh-round selection, 202nd overall choice in the 2013 NHL Draft. Prior to North America, he played with Frolunda's program in the Swedish Hockey League winning a Championship in 2016. In 158 SHL games, he scored 57 goals, 47 assists, and 104 points while winning Rookie of the Year in 2014.
