NEWARK, NJ -The New Jersey Devils today traded right wing Wayne Simmonds to the Buffalo Sabres, in exchange for Buffalo's conditional fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. New Jersey will retain 50% of Simmonds' salary in the transaction.
The conditions are as follows: if Simmonds plays in 10 regular-season games and Buffalo makes the playoffs, the selection then becomes Buffalo's 2021 fourth-round selection.
PRACTICE COVERAGE
Simmonds signed as a free agent with New Jersey on July 1, 2019. He scored eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points with 64 penalty minutes in 61 regular-season games this year. Simmonds is due to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
New Jersey now has eight picks in the 2021 NHL Draft: the club's own selections in rounds one, three, four, five and six; in addition to the New York Islanders second-round pick, Arizona's third-round selection (conditional) and Buffalo's fifth-round choice (conditional).
