We're sure to be seeing more of that big smile from Yegor Sharangovich in the coming years. The 23-year-old Belarussian has agreed to a two-year contract worth $4 million with an average annual value of $2 million. He'll make $1.8 million in 2021-22, and $2.2 in 2022-23.
Sharangovich was one of the surprises of the 2020-21 Devils season, putting together a remarkable rookie year where his goals were as memorable as that smile and some of his one-liners (thank you, bye-bye!). There was plenty of excitement prior to the start of the season after watching what Sharangovich had done in his time with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL during his loan while waiting for the North American season to begin; and when he arrived back to New Jersey, he certainly delivered.
In the first 54 games of his NHL career, Sharangovich had 30 points, which totaled 16 goals and 14 assists. His 16 goals ranked third this season in Devils' goal scoring behind Pavel Zacha and Miles Wood, who were tied for the lead with 17 each. In a full NHL season, he was on pace for a 27-goal year. His 30 points were tied for third-best, just five behind the lead (Zacha, 35pts) and one behind Jack Hughes' second-place finish.
