On Monday morning, the Devils landed college free agent Brain Halonen from Michigan Tech. The team signed Halonen to a two-year, entry-level contract that will kick in next year (2022-23).
Here are Three Things to know about the newest Devil, presented by Geico.

2. College Life

Halonen was recently named as a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which is given annually to the top player in men's Division I ice hockey, after leading the Huskies with 44 points (21G-23A). Halonen's 21 goals ranked sixth in the nation and his 44 points were eighth.
The senior played four years at Michigan Tech, totaling 53 goals, 105 points and a plus-35. He's been named to the 2022 All-CCHA First Team and won the school's freshman of the year award in 2018-19.

3. Utica Bound

Aside from the entry-level agreement, Halonen also inked an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with Utica of the American Hockey League, and he will report to the team this week.
Halonen could fit into a top-6 role as well as receiving some time on the power play for the Comets. He could get a look as a net-front position on the man-advantage.
