Switzerland: Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler
Just ahead of Switzerland's opening game of the tournament, Devils captain Nico Hischier was named captain of his national team. He followed up being named captain with a goal in the Swiss win against Italy.
In the first period, Switzerland pulled ahead of Italy with three goals, all assisted by Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler.
The winning team dominated the game, outshooting their Italian opponents 47 to 12 in the 60 minutes of regulation.
Hischier had three shots and a goal in 16:45 of ice time.
Siegenthaler logged 17:25 of ice time, three assists, and was a plus-four.

Slovakia 1, Germany 2
Slovakia: Tomas Tatar
After a goalless first period, Germany took a 2-0 lead 6:41 into the second period, before Slovakia struck back with a goal by Kristian Pospisil to cut the lead by one at 11:15 of the second period. The middle frame had the only goals of the game, as Germany hung on to defeat Slovakia. Tomas Tatar was held off the scoresheet in Slovakia's close loss to Germany.
