Drysdale, Zegras Make History with First NHL Goals

Ducks rookies Jamie Drysdale (18) and Trevor Zegras (19) scored their first NHL goals 2:29 apart tonight in a 3-2 overtime win over Arizona at Honda Center. The two goals made Drysdale and Zegras the youngest set of teammates in NHL history to each score their first NHL goals less than 2:30 apart.

Drysdale scored his goal 12:01 into the second period to pull the Ducks within a goal of the Coyotes. It was a goal that was originally credited to Max Jones on a tip, but replays indicated Jones did not make contact with the puck and the official scoring change gave Drysdale the goal.

Zegras tied the game 2 1/2 minutes later with a nifty move off a nice setup from linemate Troy Terry.

Drysdale added an assist on Zegras' goal, becoming the third defenseman in NHL history to record multiple points in his NHL debut at age 18 or younger (which includes Petr Svoboda of Montreal on Oct. 11, 1984 at Buffalo and Ray Bourque of Boston on Oct. 11, 1979 at Winnipeg).
Drysdale's goal marked only the fourth time in NHL history an 18-year-old defenseman scored a goal in his NHL debut (Bourque in the aforementioned game, Scott Stevens of Washington on Oct. 6, 1982 at the Rangers and Jason Doig of Winnipeg on October 7, 1995 vs. Dallas).
Drysdale (18 years, 344 days) became the youngest Ducks player in 25 years and the second-youngest player in franchise history to score a goal in his NHL debut (Chad Kilger, Oct. 9, 1995 at Winnipeg; 18 years, 316 days). Drysdale is also the third-youngest Ducks defensemen in franchise history to score a goal (fourth-youngest overall). Drysdale is the youngest-ever player in franchise history to record two points in his NHL debut (1-1=2).
Zegras was selected by the Ducks with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and made his debut last February 22 at Arizona. Drysdale was taken sixth overall in the 2020 draft and became the third-youngest defenseman and fifth-youngest Duck overall to make his NHL debut with the club.
