Getzlaf, 36 (5/10/85), led the Ducks to a 2007 Stanley Cup, and is the longest-serving captain in Anaheim history (2010-present), and the fourth-longest-serving captain in the NHL, trailing Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby (2007-present), Chicago's Jonathan Toews (2008-present), and Washington's Alex Ovechkin (2009-present). Getzlaf has appeared in 1,101 career NHL games with the Ducks, scoring 279-703=982 points with a +116 rating and 931 penalty minutes (PIM). Getzlaf will enter 2021-22 six points shy of tying Teemu Selanne (988) for Anaheim's all-time points record and 18 points from becoming the first player in Ducks history to record 1,000 points.
"It was always our intention to sign Ryan, and we are thrilled he chose to stay," said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. "His loyalty to this franchise is unique in pro sports, and it is our hope he remains a Duck for his entire career."
The 6-3, 228-pound forward leads Anaheim in all-time assists, even-strength points (638), overtime goals (11), power-play assists (24) and games played, ranks second among franchise leaders in points, power-play points (330) and plus/minus, and is third in game-winning goals (56) and fourth in goals. Getzlaf has also scored 37-83=120 points with a +12 rating and 137 PIM in 125 career postseason games, leading the club in all-time playoff scoring, goals and assists. Getzlaf led the 2007 Stanley Cup team in postseason scoring with 7-10=17 points and also set a Ducks record for most points in a single playoff season in 2015 (2-18=20).
Getzlaf leads the NHL in all-time overtime assists (24) and leads the 2003 NHL Draft class in points-per game (.89), assists and power-play points (330). He ranks fifth among NHL leaders in assists since entering the league in 2005-06, and is fourth with 380 primary assists since 2007-08. Getzlaf led Anaheim in assists for 13 straight seasons (2007-2020), one of two players in NHL history to do so with a single club and one of four players to lead their respective team in assists for 13 seasons, including Wayne Gretzky (1979-92), Joe Thornton (2002-16) and Anze Kopitar (2007-present).
Selected by Anaheim in the first round (19th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft, Getzlaf collected 5-12=17 points with 43 PIM in 48 games for Anaheim in 2020-21. Getzlaf recorded his 700th career assist Mar. 18, 2021 vs. Arizona, becoming the 55th player in NHL history and the fourth active player to record 700 assists, joining Joe Thornton, Sidney Crosby and Nicklas Backstrom.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Getzlaf won gold medals as a member of Team Canada at the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games. He has also represented Canada at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, 2012 World Championship, 2008 World Championship (silver), 2005 World Junior Championship (gold), 2004 World Junior Championship (silver) and 2003 U-18 World Championship.
