The Ducks have claimed defenseman William Lagesson on waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Lagesson, 28 (2/22/1996), has recorded four assists (0-4=4) with a career-high +5 rating and 19 penalty minutes (PIM) in 30 games with Toronto this season, setting career highs in time on ice per game (14:31), hits (56) and blocked shots (39). The 6-2, 211-pound defenseman has recorded 11 points (0-11=11) and 41 PIM in 90 career games with Toronto (2023-24), Montreal (2021-22) and Edmonton (2019-22).
Originally selected by Edmonton in the fourth round (91st overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Lagesson has also appeared in five games with the Toronto Marlies this season, Toronto’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Lagesson has earned 21-51=72 points with a +33 rating in 173 career AHL games with Toronto, Chicago and Bakersfield. He also spent two seasons at UMass (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) from 2013-15, recording 4-11=15 points in 63 contests from 2015-17.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Lagesson appeared in 49 games with Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), recording 1-12=13 points with a +13 rating. Lagesson has represented Sweden at numerous international tournaments, including two World Junior Championships (2015 and 2016) and the 2014 U-18 World Championship.
