The Ducks have signed center Sam Carrick to a two-year contract beginning in the 2022-23 NHL season.

"It's hard to put into words really," Carrick said. "This organization has put a lot of trust in me...This organization has given me the opportunity to live in Southern California and play hockey for a career. I've always held the belief that I could have an impact in the NHL and be a full-time player. I've stuck with that belief and worked towards it."
Carrick, 30 (2/4/92), has established new single-season career highs in numerous offensive categories this season, including points (11-8=19), goals, assists and games played (64). In 111 career NHL games with Anaheim and Toronto, Carrick has collected 15-15=30 points and 128 penalty minutes (PIM). He has also appeared in 92 games with Anaheim, recording 14-14=28 points since his Ducks debut in 2018-19.
"Confidence is huge for myself," Carrick said. "Early in my career, I would get nervous before games. That was more because I wasn't really sure about the NHL, the pace and whether I would fit in or not. Once I started to play well, put up points and do well in some scraps, I started to feel a lot more confident in myself that I belonged there. Once I proved to myself I could do it, I knew I could do this on a nightly basis. That helped a ton."
Acquired from Chicago with Spencer Abbott in exchange for Kenton Helgesen and a seventh-round selection in the 2019 NHL Draft on Mar. 1, 2017, Carrick leads San Diego in all-time scoring (86-95=181), goals, assists and games played (218) in his six seasons in the organization. Originally selected by Toronto in the fifth round (144th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Carrick has registered 138-171=309 points with a +55 rating and 686 PIM in 467 career AHL games with San Diego, Rockford and Toronto. He also scored 19-22=41 points in 65 career Calder Cup Playoff games with San Diego and Toronto.
A native of Markham, Ontario, Carrick appeared in four seasons with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), scoring 84-85=169 points with 321 PIM in 254 games. His brother, Trevor, is also a member of the Ducks, the first pair of brothers with Anaheim since Rob and Scott Niedermayer (2005-09).
