With the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft set to take place on Wednesday, June 21, the Ducks have opted to protect seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender (7-3-1). This announcement comes on a day in which the National Hockey League released the protected lists of the existing 30 teams. Each team had two options for players they wish to protect in the expansion draft, which includes the aforementioned 7-3-1 route or eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender.
