"This was a long process, but we feel we made a trade that works for both teams," said Ducks Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray. "Obviously, we were going to lose one player in expansion, but we felt freeing up some salary would help us this summer. Vegas will be pleased as well, acquiring a good young prospect in Shea and a solid veteran and leader in Clayton. Our needs aligned and we were able to work out a deal."
Theodore, 21 (8/3/95), has appeared in 53 career NHL games with the Ducks, earning 5-12=17 points with a +1 rating and 30 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-1, 194-pound defenseman has played 20 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, collecting 2-6=8 points and ranked second among all NHL rookies in scoring in the postseason. Theodore has also appeared in 89 career American Hockey League (AHL) games with the San Diego Gulls, recording 18-50=68 points with a +3 rating and 48 PIM.
Stoner, 32 (2/19/85), has appeared in 360 NHL career games with Minnesota and Anaheim, collecting 7-41=48 points with a +5 rating and 459 PIM. The 6-4, 215-pound defenseman has also collected 2-3=5 points with 36 PIM in appeared in 31 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
