Chen Gold

The Rinks & Great Park Ice's Nathan Chen won gold tonight in Men's Singles Figure Skating at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, setting a world record score of 332.60 to become the seventh American Men's Olympic Champion all-time (eighth men's gold medal overall, first since 2010). Chen scored 218.63 in the Long Program this evening after setting an international figure skating world record with a 113.97 score in the Short Program Monday night.

Chen, who trains with Great Park Ice's Head Coach of High Performance, Rafael Arutyunyan, has also won the last three World Championship events, becoming the first American (male or female) since Scott Hamilton (1982-84) to win three World titles in a row. Chen and The Rinks & Great Park Ice Pairs Team Brandon Frazier and Alexa Knierim helped the Americans take home the silver medal in the Team Event, a combination of Men's and Women's Singles, and Pairs and Ice Dance.
On the first night of the team event, Chen earned the top score in the Men's Short Program, with his 111.71 the second-highest score in a Short Program, just 0.11 points short of the world record set by Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu at the ISU Four Continents Championships in 2020. The U.S. earned 10 points for Nathan Chen's skate and eight points for Frazier and Knierim's third place finish in the Pairs Team Event. Frazier & Knierim also placed fifth in the Pairs Free Skate of the Team Event.
Four skaters from The Rinks & Great Park Ice are representing Team USA at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, including Chen, Knierim and Frazier, and Women's Singles skater Mariah Bell. In addition, The Rinks and Great Park Ice have two additional skaters: Michal Brezina representing the Czech Republic and Kailani Craine representing Team Australia. Brezina placed seventh in the Men's Short Program Team Event. Bell also trains under Arutyunyan.
The six skaters from The Rinks & Great Park Ice will continue to compete at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, taking place through Feb. 20 in Beijing, China.
