Rakell and Lindholm were members of a Team Sweden squad that earned a 3-2 shootout victory over Switzerland in the gold medal game in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday, giving the club its second straight IIHF World Championship gold medal. It marked the first time Sweden won back-to-back titles since 1991 and 1992. Sweden earned victories over Latvia (3-2) in the quarterfinals and USA (6-0) in the semifinals before defeating Switzerland in the championship game.
This marked the World Championship debuts for Rakell and Lindholm, who both have represented their country at various international tournaments, but never before on this stage. Rakell was one of three forwards named to the Media All-Star Team along with tournament MVP Patrick Kane (USA) and Sebastian Aho (Finland). Rakell finished the tournament with 14 points (6g/8a) and a +7 rating in 10 games. Two of his six goals served as game winners. Lindholm finished the tournament with six points (all assists) and a +6 rating in 10 games.
