Isac Lundestrom and Rocco Grimaldi led the way for Anaheim offensively with three points apiece. Lundestrom, Tristan Luneau and Pavol Regenda scored while Grimaldi tallied three assists.
Lukas Dostal earned the win in net, stopping 24-of-26 Arizona shots.
Anaheim dressed a mostly younger lineup for its preseason opener, including the club's first four picks in the 2022 NHL Draft, opting to give many of its most exciting young prospects an opportunity to impress the coaching staff in an official game setting.
The Coyotes jumped out to an early lead when Liam O'Brien raced down left wing and hammered a slapshot past Dostal to the short side. O'Brien recorded three points (two goals) in 39 NHL games last season.
Anaheim responded with back-to-back tallies late in the first period though to take the lead to the locker room. Regenda notched the first with a hard-working effort at the Arizona net front, muscling his way to a rebound opportunity and burying it past Coyotes netminder Karel Vejmelka.
Luneau scored the second just under three minutes later, showing off his mobility through the neutral zone before beating Vejmelka with a snapshot from the right faceoff circle. Grimaldi and Lundestrom collected the assists on both goals.
Dostal kept the Ducks in the lead early in the middle frame, this time getting the best of O'Brien when the Coyotes forward was awarded a penalty shot. O'Brien tried to beat Dostal to the glove hand after a hesitation move, but the young Anaheim netminder answered with the leather to keep the Ducks ahead.
Lundestrom continued his strong afternoon late in the period, doubling Anaheim's lead with a power-play goal. After a Coyotes odd-man rush was broken up in the Ducks defensive zone, Lundestrom turned the puck ahead for a 3-on-1 attack the other way and, when he couldn't find a passing lane, elected to take the shot himself, beating Vejmelka over the blocker.
The 22-year-old Lundestrom scored a career-high 16 goals last season among other personal-best totals in games played (80), assists (13), points (29) and shorthanded goals (4).
Anson Thornton replaced Vejmelka in net for Arizona for the third period.
Anaheim played a stingy defensive third, doing an excellent job to limit Arizona scoring chances and holding the hosts to just eight shots while protecting a two-goal lead.
The 'Yotes would pull within one in the final minutes of regulation. With Thornton on the bench for the extra attacker, Christian Fischer beat Dostal through traffic to trim Anaheim's lead. That would be as close as the home team would come though as the Ducks locked down the defensive zone in the final minute to earn a 3-2 win.
The Ducks continue their preseason schedule Tuesday night (7:30 p.m.) against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.
