Ducks Kraken 11-11 Recap

Troy Terry extended his scoring streak to an NHL-best 13 games and the Ducks earned their first-ever win over the Seattle Kraken, defeating their new division rival 7-4 tonight at Climate Pledge Arena. The victory pushes Anaheim's win streak to six games, the second-longest active mark in the NHL, and gives the Ducks standings points in eight straight contests (6-0-2).

With the win, the Ducks sit second in the Pacific Divison by points (19).
John Gibson made 21 saves to post his fifth straight win. Gibson ranks tied for third among league leaders in wins (eight) and saves (327).
Terry continued his remarkable scoring pace with another multi-point night (2-1=3), his fifth of the season. The winger's 13-game streak is the longest in the NHL this season and is tied for the fifth-longest scoring run in club history. Terry ranks fourth in the NHL in scoring (11-8=19) and tied for second in goals.
Mason McTavish, Josh Mahura, Kevin Shattenkirk, Hampus Lindholm and Sam Carrick also scored for Anaheim.
McTavish opened the scoring with his second career NHL goal, getting rewarded for following the puck right to the crease. After Kraken netminder Philipp Grubauer made the initial save, Max Comtois chopped a bouncing puck back into the slot where it carromed off McTavish and in to give the Ducks the early lead.

Terry doubled the Ducks lead in the second, extending his scoring streak to 13 games. The 24-year-old winger skated the puck over the blue line while his linemates changed behind him, pulling up just before the top of the faceoff circles and wiring a wrist shot by Grubauer for his ninth goal of the season, putting the Ducks ahead by two early in the middle frame.

That score, like many in the second period, did not last long as the teams exchanged four goals in a four-minute span.
Jaden Schwartz put Seattle on the board, beating Gibson with a wrist shot on left wing.
The Ducks responded minutes later, executing on an offensive zone faceoff to temporarily restore the two-goal lead. Derek Grant won a draw to Grubauer's right, pulling the puck back to Mahura at the point, where the defenseman hammered a slapshot through traffic and just under the cross bar.

The score remained 3-1 for 74 seconds as a bad bounce ended up in the Anaheim net. Ryan Donato skated the puck down right wing before turning and flinging it toward the slot, where it bounced off Jared McCann and quickly by Gibson to bring the Kraken back within a goal.
Shattenkirk restored the two-goal lead with a wrist shot from the right circle. The defenseman took a pass from Terry at the point before skating to open space down the wall. Shattenkirk stepped into his shot, firing it under Grubauer's blocker to put the Ducks ahead by two after 40 minutes.

The Kraken again got within a goal early in the third, cashing in on an odd-man rush. Alex Wennberg carried it over the Anaheim blueline, hesitating to freeze Gibson before a sliding a pass to Eberle that the former Oiler quickly snapped home. Eberle has goals in a career-tying four straight games.
Much like they did all night when the Kraken brought the score within one, the Ducks went back to work to again take a two-goal lead, and again as a result of a successful offensive zone faceoff. Adam Henrique got to a loose puck off the draw, feeding it back to Lindholm at the blueline. Lindholm got his shot through traffic and Grubauer never saw it, as the puck zipped by him glove side to put the Ducks ahead 5-3.

And much like Anaheim's competition did all night when the Ducks held a two-goal edge, the Kraken fought their way back to keep it close late in the game. McCann carried into the Anaheim zone, beating Gibson with a high wrist shot over the glove.
The Kraken couldn't come all the way back though despite pushing for the game's tying goal in the waning minutes of regulation, as Gibson made several key saves and Carrick and Terry each hit the empty net, securing a 7-4 Ducks win.
The Ducks return home Sunday to host the Vancouver Canucks at Honda Center.
