Paul Coffey has served as Special Advisor to ownership and hockey operations since 2022. In his role he works closely with Daryl Katz and the Oilers hockey operations leadership to support the strategic direction of the hockey club.
Coffey is regarded as one of the greatest players in NHL history, winning three Stanley Cup titles with the Oilers in 1984, 1985 and 1987, as well as one with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991, in addition to three James Norris Memorial Trophy awards as the NHL's top defenceman.
He ranks second all-time among blueliners in career goals (396), assists (1,135) and points (1,531) during the regular season, and first in goals (59), assists (137) and points (196) during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Coffey also holds the NHL record for most goals by a defenceman in a single season with 48 in 1985-86.
Internationally, the Toronto native captured three Canada Cup gold medals in 1984, 1987 and 1991.
Coffey was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility, and the Oilers raised his number 7 jersey to the rafters on October 18, 2005. He was named an enshrined member of the Oilers Hall of Fame upon its creation in September 2022.
