It didn't work out that way, as he had a so-so camp and spent 33 games with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms (34 points). Giroux was called up to the big club just after Christmas. On the 30th of December, Giroux notched one assist in a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. It was Giroux's first point in the NHL.

As a result, the Flyers made a two-game emergency recall of top prospect Giroux (then with Gatineau). Wearing No. 56, Giroux made his NHL debut in Ottawa on Feb. 19, 2008. Most notably, Giroux was tabbed for a shootout attempt. He was not able to convert it. The Flyers lost, 3-2. Honorable mention 2: On June 24, 2006, the Flyers selected Giroux with the 22nd overall pick of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. In a humorous moment, Flyers general manager Bob Clarke momentarily forgot Giroux's name at the podium.
