5 Franchise Records in Reach for Giroux

The pausing and eventual curtailment of the remainder of the 2019-20 regular season, along with the uncertainty over whether National Hockey League teams will be able to have an 82-game 2020-21 season, put on hold many players' quests for single-season or career milestones. It is worth noting, however, that Flyers captain Claude Giroux remains on the cusp of making franchise history on multiple fronts. Here's a look at five all-time statistical marks within reach for Giroux over the next year.

1. 900-game club
With 889 career regular season games played, Giroux is 11 games away from becoming just the third player in Flyers franchise history to play in 900 games. He is 14 games away from tying Bill Barber (903) for second in team history.
Bobby Clarke's 1,144 regular season games played is the most in franchise history.
2. 3rd in points
Giroux has tallied 815 career points, ranking 4th in franchise history. He needs 34 points to tie Brian Propp (849) for third. To catch Bill Barber (883) this season for second, Giroux would need 68 points in 2020-21.
Clarke's franchise record of 1,210 appears to be out of reach.
3. 600-assist club
Giroux is already 2nd in franchise history with 558 assists. Clarke's franchise-record 852 assists is a long way off for Giroux. However, there is an incremental goal that is in reach in the near future. Giroux would need 42 assists during the 2020-21 season to reach the 600 mark for his regular season career.
Giroux is currently 117th in the NHL all-time assist list. When he get to No. 600, Giroux will become the 92nd player in league history to reach that mark.
4. 9th in goals
With 21 goals scored in 2019-20, Giroux brought his career regular season goal total to 257, moving past the likes of Rod Brind'Amour, Mark Recchi and Rick Tocchet into 10th place in all-time team history. Giroux's 7th goal during the 2020-21 season will tie him with Simon Gagne for 9th in team history, and his next goal after that will put the Flyers' captain into sole possession of the spot.
Giroux has always been much more of a playmaker than a goal scorer. However, the team's 300-goal club -- with currently has seven members -- is in reach for Giroux within a couple seasons.
