1. PART 2
The Flyers and Sabres go at it again after Philly took a 3-0 win at Buffalo on Saturday... It's the second time this season these two teams play back-to-back (Jan. 18-19) with the Sabres taking the first meeting and the Flyers winning the second... In fact, the Flyers now have back-to-back wins over the Sabres with an identical 3-0 score giving them an active streak of 121:11 they have shut out Buffalo... The Flyers have not won two in-a-row at Buffalo since they won three straight in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
2. SATURDAY SHOTS
The Flyers fired 39 shots on goal for the second straight game, and first time since Oct. 16, 2019 at Edmonton that they had 39 or more shots in a road game... 15 of the 18 skaters recorded a shot on goal led by Shayne Gostisbehere with six... The Sabres were held to 23 shots and less than 10 shots per period, both of which tied the Flyers low-mark of shots allowed this season... Scott Laughton returned to the lineup from COVID protocol and recorded a goal, four shots on net, three hits and went 75% on face-offs (9-of-12).
3. FEBRUARY FINALE
The Flyers look to close out February with an above .500 record, currently at 3-2-2, winners of two straight and having earned points in four of their last five... The Sabres come in with back-to-back losses and look to avoid a three-game skid... They own the NHL's worst point total in February at 2-5-1 (5pts) and worst goals per-game (1.75)... Sam Reinhardt leads the team during the month with eight points (4g-4a) in eight games, six of which have come on the power play, while James van Riemsdyk leads the Flyers in seven February games with 10 points (4g-6a).
4. THIS, THAT & THE OTHER
THIS: Shayne Gostisbehere has goals in two straight games - he has never posted goals in three straight in his NHL career ... THAT: The Sabres were held without a goal on the power play for just the second time in their last 13 games yesterday ... THE OTHER: The Flyers own a 10-1-3 record in games where they have scored at least two goals and a 5-1-1 record when they keep their opponent to two goals or less... The Sabres are 6-3-3 in games which they score at least two goals and 4-1-0 when they keep their opponent to two goals or less.
5. PLAYERS TO WATCH
FLYERS (C: #14 - Sean Couturier)
Couturier enters today with a five-game point and assist streak with four goals and five assists for nine points... He has recorded at least one point in six of his seven games this season having only failed to score a point in the game he was injured on his first shift... All four of his goals and nine of his 10 points have come at even strength.
SABRES (D: #55 - Rasmus Ristolainen)
The 6-4, 220-lb defenseman appeared in his first game back yesterday after missing seven games from a battle with COVID-19...
