Today, Flyers Charities announced that it is donating more than $150,000 to two local organizations, Playworks Pennsylvania and All Things Are Possible Foundation (ATAP), to help school hockey programs and support STEAM education.

The Flyers announced before the season that each player on the team will be paired with a charitable or community-focused effort. Forwards Morgan Frost and Owen Tippett will serve as the official player advocates for Playworks' hockey program while Nic Deslauriers will support Eco Warriors with All Things Are Possible Foundation.

"Thanks to the generosity of our fans and supporters, Flyers Charities makes an incredible impact in our communities, and we are honored to make these significant donations that will build school hockey programs and support STEAM education," said Spectacor Sports and Entertainment President & CEO Valerie Camillo. "The sport of hockey teaches kids so many life lessons, and through this grant, Playworks will help bring our commitment of getting hockey sticks in the hands of young people to life. The ATAP Foundation will use their grant to fund programming which will help train and empower the next generation of environmental leaders, which aligns perfectly with our mission to support sustainability efforts in our community."

Each year, Flyers Charities makes three major donations to organizations that match Flyers Charities' three giving pillars: Growing the game of hockey, supporting families and communities impacted by cancer, and investing in environmental sustainability.

Last month, Flyers Charities announced a major donation to the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine. The Flyers Charities Grant Program is made possible through year-long fundraising through Flyers Charities initiatives including Casino Night, Gritty 5K Presented by Penn Medicine, Flyers Charities Carnival, 50/50 raffles, auctions and sweepstakes.

Playworks Pennsylvania received an $85,000 grant and has been named Flyers Charities' Growing the Game Premier Partner. The nonprofit, which was founded in 1996 and expanded to Pennsylvania in 2010, enables kids in schools across Philadelphia to benefit from playing every day through its year-round, on-site support services. The grant will support the introduction of hockey at partner schools across greater Philadelphia. Playworks will help facilitate safe, healthy play at recess and throughout the school day and integrate hockey into the play-based curriculum and sports culture at each site.
"Playing might sound simple but it has tremendous physical, social, and emotional skill development benefits for kids," said Tony Guidice, Regional Director of Playworks Pennsylvania. "This partnership with the Flyers means more kids in our city are going to have fun running, laughing, and making new friends all while learning hockey."

All Things Are Possible (ATAP) Foundation was created to offer life-changing, developmental programs with an emphasis on academics, athletics, awareness and arts. Through any ATAP Foundation experience, participants are uplifted and empowered to attain greatness. Through its $72,000 grant, ATAP Foundation will be able to fund the Eco Warriors program, which will inspire students in grades 7-12 by using a cohort model to strengthen relationships amongst peers as well as cultivate relationships with industry professionals from STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) disciplines. The cohort of 25 students will meet during the 2022-2023 academic year and summer to explore environmental science and apply their learning in a Future City competition, Odyssey of the Mind competition, community projects, and/or science projects so they can solve real-world challenges, and engage with industry professionals in a meaningful way. Wells Fargo Center has committed to host the program as one of its stops and will teach the students about its own sustainability efforts and environmentally-conscious practices.

"Receiving this grant for our ATAP Eco Warriors program will significantly benefit students and communities," said Dr. Tiffani A. Worthy, CEO & Chairwoman, All Things Are Possible Foundation. "Research shows that students who participate in STEAM programs become increasingly curious about the world around them and feel empowered to change it for the better. Thank you Flyers Charities for partnering with ATAP as we empower students to be the change they want to see in the world as they create clean communities."
