Flyers Make First GotAED Overtime Challenge Device Donation

As a result of the Flyers GotAED Overtime Challenge, a new initiative launched this season in partnership with the non-profit Simon's Heart that pledges to donate an AED device to local youth organizations with every Flyers sudden death overtime win during the season, the Wissahickon Charter School received a new AED device on Thursday, May 17. Members of Flyers Alumni and Community Relations staff were on hand to assist with the donation and training.

The donated device comes in part thanks to Flyers Captain Claude Giroux's overtime game-winner on April 1 against the Boston Bruins.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of heart-related death in the United States for people under the age of 30 and the number one identifiable cause of death among student-athletes. With proper use of an AED device, the chance of survival during cardiac arrest can double and the addition of CPR with early defibrillation is the only way to restore a victim's heart rhythm back to normal. Without these devices, a victim's chance of survival decreases by 7-10% every minute that passes.
School staff at today's AED donation received proper training on device use from Simon's Heart representatives and are now fully equipped with an emergency AED to help reduce the risks of Sudden Cardiac Arrest among their students and faculty.
