The Philadelphia Flyers will select 12th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft as a result of Tuesday’s 2024 NHL Draft Lottery.
The 2024 NHL Draft will be held at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Round 1 will begin Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN) followed by Rounds 2-7 on Saturday, June 29 at 11:30 a.m. ET (NHL Network).
Entering the Draft Lottery at No. 12, the Flyers held a 5.1 percent chance at landing the second overall pick. The San Jose Sharks won the lottery to select first overall while the Chicago Blackhawks won the second overall pick.
This is the first time in Flyers history that the team will select 12th overall in the NHL Draft.
Philadelphia currently owns 10 draft picks in the 2024 NHL Draft: First Round (2), Second Round (2), Third Round (1), Fifth Round (2), Sixth Round (2), Seventh Round (1).
The first 16 overall selections of the 2024 NHL Draft are as follows:
No. 1 – San Jose Sharks
No. 2 – Chicago Blackhawks
No. 3 – Anaheim Ducks
No. 4 – Columbus Blue Jackets
No. 5 – Montreal Canadiens
No. 6 – Utah
No. 7 – Ottawa Senators
No. 8 – Seattle Kraken
No. 9 – Calgary Flames
No. 10 – New Jersey Devils
No. 11 – Buffalo Sabres
No. 12 – Philadelphia Flyers
No. 13 – Minnesota Wild
No. 14 – Pittsburgh Penguins*
No. 15 – Detroit Red Wings
No. 16 – St. Louis Blues
* Under the terms of an August 6, 2023 trade, Pittsburgh will transfer its 1st-round pick in either the 2024 or 2025 NHL Draft to San Jose. If Pittsburgh’s 2024 1st-round pick becomes a top 10 pick as a result of the Draft Lottery, Pittsburgh will have the option to transfer its 2025 1st-round pick to San Jose instead of its 2024 1st-round pick.
The NHL announced changes to the Draft Lottery format on March 23, 2021. Among the changes instituted in 2022 is a limit on the total number of selections (10) a team participating in the Draft Lottery can “move up” in the event it wins one of the Lottery Draws. Thus, only the top 11 seeds are eligible to receive the first overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The 14 teams not selected in the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will be assigned the remaining 2024 NHL Draft selections (among 1 through 16 in the first round), in inverse order of regular-season points.
