Flyers Present End of Season Awards for 2021-22

The Philadelphia Flyers presented their 2021-22 end-of-season awards on Friday prior to their game against the Ottawa Senators at the Wells Fargo Center.

Bobby Clarke Trophy (Most Valuable Player) - Cam Atkinson

Cam Atkinson wins his first Bobby Clarke Trophy as the team MVP. Atkinson has 23 goals and 27 assists for 50 points in 73 games this season for a 0.68 points-per-game average, which leads the team if it holds through tonight and will be the fourth highest of his career. Atkinson averaged 18:15 of ice time per game and led the team in shorthanded goals (3) and game-winning goals (6) this season.

Barry Ashbee Trophy (Outstanding Defenseman) - Travis Sanheim

Travis Sanheim wins his first Barry Ashbee Trophy as the Flyers' top defenseman. He enters tonight's finale with seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points, as well as a plus-10 rating, in 79 games. He leads all Flyers defenseman in assists (24) and points (31), while his plus-10 leads the entire team. Sanheim has also averaged 22:59 of ice time per game this season, which is the second-most ice time on the team entering tonight's schedule, and a full minute more than his previous career high set last year (21:53).

Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy (Most Improved Player) - Travis Sanheim
Travis Sanheim was selected by his teammates as the Flyers' most improved player from the previous season. He leads Flyers defenseman with seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points in 79 games, missing only two games this season due to COVID-19 protocol. Sanheim appeared in 55 of 56 games last season, picking up three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. This season, he has a plus-10 rating, which leads the team and is an improvement of plus-32 from last season when he was a minus-22. This is the second time in Sanheim's career he has been selected by his teammates for the award. He was recognized after the 2018-19 season.

Yanick Dupre Class Guy Memorial Award - Cam Atkinson
The Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) selected Cam Atkinson as this year's recipient of the Yanick Dupre Class Guy Memorial Award. This award is presented annually to the Flyer who best illustrates character, dignity and respect for the sport both on and off the ice. The award honors the memory of Yanick Dupre, who died on August 16, 1997, at the age of 24 after a 16-month battle with leukemia. Dupre played parts of three seasons with the Flyers (1991-92, 1994-95 and 1995-96), recording two goals and 16 penalty minutes in 35 games. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the third round (50th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

Gene Hart Memorial Award - Zack MacEwen

The Philadelphia Flyers Fan Club selected Zack MacEwen as the winner of the Gene Hart Memorial Award. This award is given to the player who demonstrated the most "Heart" during the season as voted on by members of the Fan Club at their monthly meetings. Entering tonight's finale, MacEwen has tallied three goals and six assists for nine points in 74 games, setting new career highs in assists and points while also doubling his career games played. The award honors the memory of longtime Flyers broadcaster Gene Hart. For 28 years, Hart called the organization's most thrilling moments, and in the process, helped spawn generations of devoted fans. Hart's contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Flyers Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997. The Flyers Fan Club will also make a donation to the charity of MacEwen's choice.

Toyota Cup - Carter Hart

Carter Hart won the Toyota Cup as the Flyer who accumulated the most points associated with being selected as a "Star of the Game." Five points were awarded for being selected First Star, three points were awarded for a Second Star performance and one point was awarded for a Third Star selection. Hart was selected as the first star four times and the second and third star three times each for a total of 32 points, earning him his second career Toyota Cup.
